“When you have faith in God, you don’t have to worry about the future. You just know it’s all in His Hands. You just go to and do your best.” – Elder Bryan Mathison
Introduction
As I was thinking of writing this post “How to strengthen your faith in difficult times” I remembered the hymn written by Priscilla J. Owens “Will Your Anchor Hold” and I felt blessed by the lyrics of the hymn. Honestly, it remains of us how to strengthen our faith in difficult for it will surely come. Let me give you the first stanza and refrain:
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
Refrain
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love
When life throws its hardest challenges your way – loss uncertainty, failure, or fear – it’s easy to feel like your faith is slipping through your fingers, in those dark moments, doubts can creep in, and hope can seem out of reach. It might look as if you have abandon by your creator. But it’s precisely in these seasons of struggle that faith has the greatest potential to grow. Strengthening your faith in difficult times isn’t about denying the pain, it’s about discovering the unshakable peace and purpose in the midst of it. In this post, we will explore the practical soul-nourishing ways to anchor your heart in God, even when everything around you feels unstable. But before we dive inside let me share this true story.
Musa was a young, God-fearing Nigerian from Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State. While in school, he was a born again and devoted Christian. He was also very serious with his studies. After graduating with top honors in engineering at Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, he was full of hope for the future. He had always believed that hard work plus prayer equaled success. But after two years of relentless job-hunting with no breakthrough, his faith began to waver.
He fasted, prayed and attended vigils. Yet, nothing changed. Some of his friends who he was better off in school were traveling abroad, getting married, launching businesses — but Musa was stuck. He was tired, weak and began to question God. One day, during his lowest moment, his mother handed him a small notebook filled with handwritten scriptures and encouragements she had gathered over the years. One verse jumped out at him:
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” — Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
Tears rolled down his face as he realized: God was still with him — even in the valley. That was the turning point. Musa didn’t get a job the next day. But he began to rebuild his faith. He strengthened his faith in that difficult time. Two years later, he launched a digital tech startup that now employs others. His breakthrough wasn’t just a job. It was a deep, unshakable faith born out of hardship. Hallelujah!!!
I want to assure you that God Almighty will visit your life now in that situation you are passing through in Jesus’ name. Amen. All you need to do is to strengthen your faith in that difficult time.
Why Faith Is Tested in Difficult Times
If you’re going through pain, delay, or hardship, you may be wondering, “Where is God in all of this?” You’re not alone. The Bible is full of people who faced dark seasons — Joseph in prison, Job losing everything, David running from Saul, and Jesus in Gethsemane. Difficult times are not proof that God has abandoned you. They are often proof that He is preparing you.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2–3 (NIV)
Faith is not tested when life is easy. It’s tested when:
- Prayers seem unanswered
- You feel alone
- You’re misunderstood, rejected, or stuck
That’s why it’s important to know how to strengthen your faith when life gets hard.
1. Remember God’s Faithfulness in the Past
Difficult seasons make it easy to forget all the times God came through for you.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” — Psalm 103:2 (KJV)
What you should do now:
- Keep a journal of testimonies and answered prayers
- Revisit them when doubt creeps in
- Thank God for previous victories, no matter how small
Even if your present feels dark, your past victories are evidence that God is still working.
2. Fill Your Mind With the Word of God
In tough seasons, the enemy attacks your mind with lies:
- “God doesn’t care about you.”
- “You’re wasting your time praying.”
- “You’re not good enough.”
The only way to fight lies is with truth, and truth comes from the Word of God.
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” — Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
What you should do now:
- Read scriptures daily (even 1 chapter a day)
- Meditate on promises, not problems
- Declare Bible verses aloud to yourself
These are few powerful verses to hold on to:
- Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you…”
- Philippians 4:6–7 – “Be anxious for nothing…”
- Romans 8:28 – “All things work together for good…”
3. Stay in a Community of Faith
Lone Christians are vulnerable Christians. When you’re isolated, discouragement thrives. But when you’re surrounded by others who believe, your faith is strengthened.
“Let us not give up meeting together… but encourage one another…” — Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Join a Bible study group or church fellowship
- Surround yourself with faith-filled friends
- Share your struggles and let others pray with you
Don’t suffer in silence. The body of Christ is designed to support each other.
4. Pray Honestly, Even When It Hurts
God is not intimidated by your emotions. He already knows your heart. Like David in the Psalms, you can tell Him when you’re angry, afraid, or disappointed.
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.” — Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Pray from the heart, not just religious routine
- Pour it all out — your doubts, tears, and questions
- Then, listen. He speaks peace to troubled hearts
Your honesty with God creates intimacy. And intimacy brings strength.
5. Worship in the Middle of the Storm
Worship shifts your focus from your problem to God’s power. Paul and Silas were in prison, yet they sang praises — and God responded with an earthquake of deliverance.
“At midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God… Suddenly there was a violent earthquake…” — Acts 16:25–26 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Play worship songs that remind you of who God is
- Worship even when it doesn’t “feel right”
- Let praise replace panic
When you worship in the dark, light begins to break through.
6. Remind Yourself: This Is a Season, Not a Sentence
No matter how long your trial lasts, it is temporary.
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5 (KJV)
You are passing through the fire, not living in it. Trials are for a time. God’s promises are for eternity.
What you should do now:
- Speak hope into your future
- Say things like, “This too shall pass,” or “I am being refined, not destroyed”
- Visualize your breakthrough and act in faith
7. Serve Others Even When You’re Hurting
This may seem counterintuitive, but one of the fastest ways to build your faith is by helping others.
Job’s story changed after he prayed for his friends.
“After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes…” — Job 42:10 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Volunteer in church or your community
- Encourage someone else going through a hard time
- Sow kindness even when you’re in lack
Serving turns your pain into purpose.
8. Trust God’s Timing — Not Your Clock
Sometimes, what looks like a delay is divine preparation. God sees the full picture. You only see one puzzle piece.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Surrender your timeline to God
- Avoid comparing your journey with others
- Focus on growing while you wait
God may not come when you expect, but He always comes on time.
9. Fast With Purpose
Fasting isn’t about twisting God’s arm. It’s about tuning your heart to His voice. Fasting strengthens your spirit and helps you focus on God in the middle of chaos.
“When you fast, do not look somber… your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” — Matthew 6:16–18 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Choose 1–3 days to fast and pray
- Replace meals with worship, prayer, and scripture
- Write down what you’re believing God for
10. Keep Walking — Even if You Don’t Understand
Faith is not about understanding everything. It’s about trusting God’s heart even when His hand seems invisible.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” — Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
What you should do now:
- Take one step of obedience daily
- Don’t quit praying, worshipping, serving, or believing
- Choose to believe that God is still good
You may not understand now, but one day you will look back and thank God, He held you together.
Conclusion: Don’t Let the Fire Kill Your Faith — Let It Refine It
Musa’s story teaches us something powerful: Faith is not the absence of trouble; it’s the presence of trust. Maybe you’re in your own season of delay, heartbreak, or hardship. You’ve cried, prayed, and waited — and you’re wondering if God hears you. He does. You’re not being buried. You’re being planted. And at the right time, you will bloom in the name of Jesus Christ.

Now before I drop my Final Bible Encouragement, you won’t enjoy the peace of mind everyone in Christ enjoys even in the midst of storm. I want to encourage you to take these ABC Steps To Salvation wholeheartedly:
ABC Steps To Salvation
A – Admit That You Are a Sinner
To begin a relationship with Jesus, you must first recognize your need for Him. We all have sinned and are separated from God.
- Romans 3:23 (NIV):
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” - Romans 6:23 (NIV):
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Admitting your sin is the first step toward repentance and receiving God’s grace.
B – Believe in Jesus Christ as God’s Son and Your Savior
Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again. He paid the price for your sins through His death on the cross.
- John 3:16 (NIV):
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - Romans 10:9 (NIV):
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Believing is not just knowing—it’s trusting Jesus personally as your Lord and Savior.
C – Confess and Call Upon His Name
You must confess your faith and call on the name of Jesus to receive salvation.
- 1 John 1:9 (NIV):
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” - Romans 10:13 (NIV):
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Confessing is declaring publicly and personally that Jesus is your Savior and Lord.
Kindly take this Salvation Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come to You today, just as I am. I know I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died for my sins, and rose again to give me eternal life. Today, I repent of my sins and invite Jesus into my heart as my Lord and Savior. In Your Mercy, write my name in the Book of Life. Thank You for saving me. Help me to live for You from this day forward. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now that you are saved, please make sure you attend a Bible Believing Church where Christ Jesus Alone is being preached. God bless you indeed and keep you and I till very end in Jesus name. Amen
📖 Final Bible Encouragement
“But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary…” — Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
